About This Spot

Stepping into Palladio Restaurant feels like arriving at an intimate retreat nestled within the rolling vineyards of Barboursville. There’s an inviting calm here, where the soft hum of conversation blends with the gentle clink of glassware, setting a relaxed yet refined rhythm to the evening. The natural light that streams through tall windows frames the changing seasons outside—vines shifting from summer green to autumn gold—offering a quiet reminder that this is a place to savor both moment and meal.

The pace here encourages slowing down, allowing each course to serve as a thoughtful passage through Italy’s rich culinary traditions, reimagined with local inspiration. Rather than a simple list of offerings, the menu unfolds like a story—balanced tapestries of flavors that surprise and comfort in equal measure. From tender gnocchi kissed with unexpected hints of peach and speck, to the earthy embrace of wild mushrooms mingling with risotto, each bite feels purposeful and connected to its surroundings.

Hospitality at Palladio goes beyond attentive service; it’s in the little touches that make you feel genuinely cared for—a glass of Prosecco upon arrival, warm conversations about wine pairings from an expertly curated cellar, or a quiet moment in the Library room where the landscape outside invites quiet reflection. This is a place where food and wine weave a quiet celebration of place, craftsmanship, and time spent together.

Whether you’re settling in for a special occasion or a thoughtful escape from the everyday, Palladio’s atmosphere holds a subtle elegance. It offers a sincere, grounded experience: a chance to connect with good company, seasonal ingredients, and the gentle beauty of the Virginia countryside.

Visited from DC during a weekend at Shenandoah and we were greeted by warm attentive service. I was apprehensive given some of the reviews but didn’t encounter any of the negative issues others have highlighted. The restaurant was flexible with our need to move our reservation a bit earlier when we called the day of and we were promptly seated and greeted with a complimentary glass of Prosecco and a pre-appetizer. The restaurant is a small intimate dining room with a semi formal vibe (some men in dinner jackets). We did the mixed wine flight and enjoyed each course of our dinner. Would highly recommend and would visit again.

Located at Barboursville winery this is overall a plesant dining experience. We were poured a glass of prosecco when seated and a served an amuse bouche after ordering which is a nice touch. Menu is Italian Style with Antipasti, Primi, Secondi, Contorni and Dolce Primi is primarily pasta dishes and could serve as a main course. Each course has a recommended wine pairing There is also a full wine menu Dishes were plated beautifully. Pasta is made in house. Our mains were ok, not spectaular which for the hype and cost, I was hoping for. Service is very attentive though it felt impersonal. What we ate: *BURRATA, POMODORI E PROSCITTO- 20 Local Caiman & Gin Fiz Tomato Salad Burrata & Balsamic Reduction House Made Grissini Wrapped with Prosciutto *CAVATELLI DI RICOTTA CON PESTO DI BRoccoLI- Freshly Made Ricotta Cavatelli Broccoli, Pecorino Toscano & Almond-Pinenut-Chili Pesto *CAPPELLETTI CON CARNE E FUNGHI - Classic Hat-Shaped Small Ravioli Filled with Roasted Veal, Mortadella, Chicken, Crescenza Parmigiano Reggiano & Madison Mushrooms Royal Trumpets Thyme-Butter Sauce *PARMIGIANA DI VERDURE - Baked Egsplant, Local Oyster Mushrooms, Malabar Spinach, Vidalia Onions Wisconsin Grand Cru, Buffalo Ricotta, Rosemary, Basil & Piennolo-Pomodoro *BISTECCA DI MANZO ALLA GRIGLIA- Grilled Grass-Fed Beef Hanger Steak Sautéed Chanterelle Mushrooms, Swiss Chard al Sugo & Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes Rosemary-Cabernet Franc Reserve Reduction *Chocolate-Pecan Tart Madagascar Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream & Salted Caramel. Great place, atmosphere was nice for a date night, server was knowledgeable. We did all the courses and everything was amazing. I need with the best tiramisu I’ve probably ever had!

As usual, the food from Palladio was exceptional and enjoyed by all of us. Service could not have been better. Eating in the Library let's us all look out the windows and see the Fall foliage, the beautiful mountains and the color changing vines!! What a great day!

My husband and I visited for our anniversary as we were married at UVA. Excellent food! I would consider this a world class restaurant. The lamb was soft and incredibly flavorful. The duck I had was the best I’ve ever had. Tasty, seasoned, crispy skin, and perfectly cooked. The winery itself boasts excellent wine, a scenic vineyard, and a barrel room that sets an authentic atmosphere. My only wish is that they had better views of the vineyard as a whole, but the restaurant itself was phenomenal and best meal I’ve eaten all year.

My mother and I staid for a night at Barboursville and went to dinner at Palladio. The experience was incredibly special. The service was top notch and it felt like a truly special experience with champagne and amouse bouche at the beginning, the perfect cadence of dishes coming out and the stellar menu. Not to miss: Bagna Cauda

Not sure about all of the negative lunch reviews, but I can tell you the dinner experience at Palladio is nothing short of perfection. We were married at the Barboursville Ruins 5 years ago and had our wedding dinner there, so we make it a point to visit every year on our anniversary as a special and romantic occasion. Each year the experience has hit 10's all across the board as a top dining experience. The service is always refined and impeccable, the Octagon wine never disappoints, and the meals are continuously amazing. Please do try the Wild Boar appetizer if it's on the menu, presented with lentils, caramelized onions, and blueberries... I would say this dish is on my list of the top 5 appetizers I've had anywhere in my 50 years of dining at fine restaurants. My wife's fresh Halibut main was an incredible dish as well...especially if you sub in the creamy mashed potatoes. I chose the Duck as my main course - it had a very unique and crispy presentation and I would give both this and the Halibut (after stealing part of my wife's dish) 10 out of 10's as well. Overall we would rate Palladio at Barboursville on the same level as Fleurie, Ten, and The Farmhouse at Veritas as one of the top restaurants within driving distance of Charlottesville.
